THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — No. 16 Cal Lutheran men's basketball won its 10th straight win game as they cruised past Caltech 87-55 on Saturday afternoon.
The Kingsmen (14-3, 7-1 SCIAC) defended home court once again, improving to 9-0 at Gilbert Arena. Their 10-game win streak is the longest since the 2000-01 season.
Four Kingsmen broke double-figure scoring with
Devon Lewis leading the way with 17 points and
Desi Burrage,
Tommy Griffitts, and
Patrick Renane all posting 10 points.
With the score tied 12-12 at the 13-minute mark of the first half, the Kingsmen started to separate. They outscored the Beavers (1-16, 0-8 SCIAC) 32-14 until halftime, going 9-16 (56.25%) from the field and 11-11 from the line during that stretch.
The Kingsmen only continued to roll in the second half, scoring 46 points on 14-29 shooting (48.3%) in the final 20 minutes to end the contest with a winning margin of 33 points, the largest of the season.
The Kingsmen were dominant on the glass and at the free-throw line. They outrebounded the Beavers 42-23 and 15-7 in offensive rebounds and sunk 26 free throws on 28 attempts (92.86%).
The Kingsmen take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next in a battle of the top two teams in the SCIAC. Like the Kingsmen, the Stags (13-4, 7-1 SCIAC) are riding a big win streak heading into the bout, as they put their 11-game win streak on the line. The game will take place at Gilbert Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
