CLAREMONT, Calif — Cal Lutheran men's water polo took on two Division I opponents on day two of the Gary Troyer Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Kingsmen fell to Cal State Fullerton 17-12 and the University of the Pacific 19-8.
"Today we matched up against two Division I teams and put forth a solid effort," said head coach
John Jacobson. "Against Fullerton, the team performed strongly for three quarters but couldn't quite finish. Against Pacific, we had a great first quarter but still need to work on our defensive consistency. Overall a solid performance by the team against some very experienced competition."
Against Cal State Fullerton,
David Brandt led the way with three goals and
Zane Hermann,
Adam Dow, and
Bryan Lynch had two each. Justin Boal kept the ball moving with three assists and Dow and Lynch had two each.
Lincoln Hall had the most drawn ejections with three.
On defense,
Bo DuBois and
Jack Germann split time in goal. DuBois played the first half and made seven saves. Germann was in for the second half and also recorded seven. Germann tallied two assists and four more Kingsmen had one.
Versus Pacific, Hermann led the way with two goals and six more Kingsmen scored once. Dow was big in the passing game and recorded a team-high three steals. Hall led the way with two drawn ejections and Herman had two steals.
DuBois and Germann split time in goal for the second straight game. DuBois was in for the first three quarters and made six saves. Germann played the final quarter and had three.
The Kingsmen jump back into SCIAC play for their next contest. They host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
