Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball defeated Whitman 3-2 before falling to UC Santa Cruz 3-0 on Saturday.
 
It was day two of the UC Santa Cruz Slug Fest and the Regals finished the invite 1-3. Alex Hayes was named to the 2023 Slug Fest All-Tournament Team. 
 
Cal Lutheran vs. Whitman – 25-12, 23-25, 25-9, 18-25, 16-14
The Regals played in their second five-set match in as many days. After falling in five sets yesterday, the Regals responded by winning against the Blues.
 
Alex Hayes led the attack with 13 kills, Tarin Rueckert added 12 and Kira Mortensen had 11 more. Tess Holbert kept the offense moving with 32 assists, Keegan Corley led the backline with 30 digs and Mortensen had four total blocks. Hayes, Holbert, and Rueckert had three aces each. 
 
Cal Lutheran vs. UC Santa Cruz – 22-25, 20-25, 21-25
Both the Regals and Banana Slugs are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason rankings. The set were highly competitive as every set hit 20-plus for both teams.
 
Reuckert and Sadie Peete had eight kills each and Amy Buffini had six. Holbert recorded 12 assists and two aces and Buffini added two aces. Corley tallied 17 digs and Hayes had three total blocks. 
 
The Regals continue the season on the road. They are at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the East-West Classic 2023 on Friday and Saturday.
