Kingsmen Get First Win of the Season Versus John Hopkins; Fall to Air Force

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Sept. 1, Cal Lutheran men's water polo got its first win of the season as they defeated Johns Hopkins on day two of the Rare Air Challenge. They fell to the host, Air Force, to wrap up the day.

Cormac Flanders scored with 42 seconds left to lift the Kingsmen to their first victory of the season. 
 
Luke Matthies led the way with four goals and Zane Hermann, Jack Bradbury, and Lincoln Hall had two each. Levi Cook and Adam Dow dished out two assists each and four more Kingsmen had one. Bo Dubois was in goal and made six saves. 
 
The game had 15 ties/lead changes. Each team took multiple leads during the game as the score went back and forth. Cal Lutheran had the final say as Dow scored with 2:35 remaining and Flanders put on the finishing touch. 
 
Cal Lutheran 8, Air Force 16
The Kingsmen had their work cut out for them as they took on Division I and No. 19 in the nation Air Force to wrap up the Rare Air Challenge. 
 
Cal Lutheran put up a tough fight and trailed 3-2 after the first quarter. Air Force doubled up the Kingsmen at the half and led 6-3. The Division I team took care of business in the second half and won the game.
 
Tommy Riffle scored two goals and six more Kingsmen scored one. Cook dished out two assists, five Kingsmen had a drawn ejection and Justin Boals had two steals. DuBois continued in goal and made nine saves. 
 
The Kingsmen remain on the road and are in Claremont, Calif., next weekend for the Inland Empire Classic.
