THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's water polo put on an offensive clinic en route to a 19-5 win against the Caltech Beavers on Saturday afternoon. It was the Kingsmen's first conference game of the season.
The action started early when
Lincoln Hall scored, only 50 seconds into the first quarter, to put the Kingsmen ahead quickly.
Justin Boals, along with Hall, went on to lead the Kingsmen with three goals each and were a part of the 14 players who recorded at least one goal, with six of those coming in the first quarter alone.
The first quarter was only the start of the dominance as they went on to outscore the Beavers 15-1 through three-quarters of play. Cal Lutheran shut out Caltech in the first half.
The Kingsmen's defense also showed up to play, not allowing a goal until eight seconds left in the third quarter.
Kayden Sourbeer and
Nic Mastropoalo led the defensive charge, recording five and three steals, respectively. There were 16 total Kingsmen who recorded at least one steal.
Bo Dubois,
Jack Germann, and
Daniel Johnson all split time in goal with Dubois and Johnson, both recording one save each and Germann recording two.
After four quarters of play, the Kingsmen came out on top, starting conference play 1-0 and improving their season record to 2-6.
The Kingsmen will be back on the road next week when they continue SCIAC play at La Verne on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
