THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's soccer continued its impressive run to start the year and opened conference play with a dominating 3-1 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday night.
The newly ranked, No. 18 Regals were 4-0-1 to start the year and have now entered the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The win brings them to 5-0-1 and 1-0 in conference.
The Regals have been lights out on offense and defense. The defense went 530 minutes without giving up a goal before CMS finally broke through.
Logan Duford was in goal for the Regals and made three saves.
Eden Quiroz,
Anna Evenson, and
Isabella Veljacic kept the offense rolling. The Regals had a fast start as Evenson assisted Quiroz on the first goal of the game in the third minute.
In the second half, the Regals added the goals to get the distance they needed. Evenson scored in the 49
th minute and Veljacic added her goal in the 63
rd. Evenson added a second assist, getting the ball to Veljacic.
The Regals handled the Athenas and the defense of
Lily Hatanaka,
Avery West,
Ally Fisicaro,
Savana Durr,
Ellie Ruhoff,
Madie Fahey, and
Brynn McMahon continued to be dominant.
"Great start to conference play," said head coach
Frank Marino. "We got a goal early and did a great job to start the second half, and put the game out of reach. To play four games in seven days and get the results we did, I couldn't be happier."
The Regals continue conference play on the road. They are at La Verne on Saturday at 7 p.m.
