THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Alline Ballard posted a career-high 29 points as Cal Lutheran women's basketball pulled away in the fourth quarter to take down St. Joseph's College of Maine 72-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Ballard added 12 rebounds and three blocks for her third double-double in as many games and fifth on the season.
Sara Mills was next in scoring with 15 points and
Kaiya Mack added 10.
The Regals started the contest off fast, outscoring the Monks 21-4 through the first eight minutes of the first quarter. The Monks cut their deficit to just eight points by halftime and outscored the Regals 20-10 in the third quarter to begin the fourth quarter with the lead.
With the Regals down by two points with four minutes left in the game, Ballard scored to tie it up at 61-61. Her basket would mark the start of a 13-5 Regals run to finish the game strong and grab the victory.
The Regals set a season-high in steals with 17. Mack had an impressive six steals, a game-high. Mills had four steals,
Grace Godines had three, and Ballard,
Janna Holley,
Amaya Charles, and
Alexa Greenwood recorded one.
The Regals close out 2023 with a victory and have now won seven straight games dating back to Nov. 25. They begin the new year with conference play and take on Occidental on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
