REDLANDS, Calif. — Devon Lewis scored 27 points, Brock Susko added 24, and Cal Lutheran men's basketball defeated Redlands 74-65 on Saturday afternoon.
The Kingsmen opened conference play with a win and improved to 4-2 on the season.
Lewis tied the program record for free throw percentage and was 11-11. The most free throws made in a game without a miss at Cal Lutheran is 12. Lewis added six rebounds and two assists.
Susko was money from behind the arc and led his team with six three-pointers. He was rebound shy of a double-double and added one assist, block, and steal.
Tommy Griffitts was next with eight points and Stephen Davis and Desi Burrage had five each. Griffitts and Riley O'Connor led the team with three assists each and Davis, Griffitts, and Ze'ev Remer had two steals each.
The first half remained extremely close as Redlands held a 36-34 advantage at the break. The score continued to go back and forth in the second half. Down 63-62, the Kingsmen finished the game on an 11-3 run and walked off the court with a big win. During the run, Susko drilled two three-pointers, Lewis made four free throws, and Burrage added two free throws.
The Kingsmen excelled in all facets of the game. They made 11 three-pointers to Redlands five and shot 86.4 percent from the free-throw line to the Bulldogs' 69. The game was highly competitive with 14 ties and 18 lead changes.
The Kingsmen continue the season on the road before returning home. They have their second straight conference game and are at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday at 7 p.m.
