Winter, West Send Regals to SCIAC Tournament Championship

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's soccer is headed to the SCIAC Tournament championship! Second-half goals from Caitlyn Winter and Avery West lifted the Regals to a 2-0 victory against Chapman in the semifinal.

In the first half, the Regals outshot the Panthers 14-0 and possessed more than two-thirds of the half. Despite their chances, neither team found the net as the first 45 minutes concluded with zeros on the scoreboard.

In the 65th minute, Winter broke the scoreless tie, putting a shot into the top-right corner that would send William Rolland Stadium into a frenzy. Eden Quiroz assisted the goal.

West, the reigning SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year, scored in the 82nd minute to push the Regals' lead to 2-0. The goal was assisted by Ashley Escamilla

The Regals closed out the match cleanly, limiting Chapman to just one shot across the 90-minute slate. Goalkeeper Logan Duford recorded the save in her one opportunity.

With the win, the Regals (15-0-4) advance in the tournament and will host Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at noon for the SCIAC crown. Both teams held Top 25 rankings this season and boast identical conference records at 9-0-3. Their lone head-to-head matchup resulted in a 1-1 draw in the regular season.
