THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's soccer fought all 90 minutes but dropped the SCIAC Tournament championship game in a 1-0 thriller against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon.
It was a back-and-forth affair throughout, as both teams had opportunities to score in both halves. The Regals took 10 shots to the Sagehens' seven and both teams drew three corner kicks each.
The defining moment of the match was in the 39th minute. With Pomona-Pitzer on the attack, a handball was called on Cal Lutheran to give the Sagehens a free-kick. The Sagehens buried it into the net to make it 1-0, where the score would remain for the rest of the contest.
The Regals would threaten with chances inside the final 10 minutes of the match, but the offensive effort wouldn't be enough to tie it up before the clock hit zero.
Logan Duford and Kelsey Slaugh shared time in goal, with Duford recording three saves. Avery West, Ally Fisicaro, and Adriana Maroney gave a 90-minute effort in the match.
The Sagehens (15-0-3) have been a part of every SCIAC championship since 2017, taking home the title in four out of the last six years.
Whether the Regals (15-1-4) will continue their season or not is in the fate of the NCAA committee. The announcement of the Division III playoff bracket will take place on Monday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. PST
