LA VERNE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran football dropped their final game of the season as they fell to La Verne 31-24 on Saturday afternoon.
The Kingsmen wrapped up their 2023 campaign by playing the Leopards in a fifth-place SCIAC game. They conclude the season 3-7 and 2-5 in conference.
The Kingsmen scored the first touchdown of the game as JP Andrade found Cade Cadam for a 13-yard strike. The Leopards answered in a big way in the second quarter. They scored 24 straight points and took a 24-7 lead at the break.
Cal Lutheran was quick to answer in the second half. Cadam added his second touchdown of the day as he caught a pass from James McNamara from nine yards out. The Kingsmen added another score as McNamara found Tyler Shimomura for a 24-yard pass. The touchdown cut the lead to 31-21 with 2:41 left in the third.
That was all the touchdowns that were scored as both teams added a field goal on the fourth as La Verne took the game. Daniel Burgos made his kick from 23 yards out.
Shimomura had a big day for the offense as he tallied 114 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Troy Mills and Devon Goosby led the defense with five tackles each. Goosby added half a sack and a forced fumble. Jayden Monick and Neville Richardson both had a sack and Hunter Hall added half a sack.
