THOUSAND OAKS, Calif — Cal Lutheran women's soccer battled all 90 minutes to seal a 2-1 victory over Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
Macey Peery scored the equalizer and
Savana Durr had the game-winner.
In the first half, the No. 23 Regals took eight shots and limited the Bulldogs' chances, but a lone shot on goal that squeaked through acted as a gift for Redlands. The half concluded with the Bulldogs up 1-0, the first time the Regals trailed at halftime all season.
In the 61st minute, Peery provided a spark off the bench by getting the Regals on the board just moments after being subbed in. Her goal was assisted by
Eden Quiroz. Now tied 1-1, the Regals built off their newfound energy and threatened with numerous offensive chances.
A late corner kick was what finally led the Regals to break the tie.
Elisa Shott gave a beautiful ball across the goal and Durr finished the play to give Cal Lutheran the lead in the 87th minute. The defense did the rest, keeping the lead and running out the clock for the last eight minutes of the match.
Cal Lutheran dominated time of possession and outshot Redlands 26-1 throughout the contest, with 18 of those shots coming in the second half.
The Regals stay undefeated and move to 10-0-2 (6-0-1), while the Bulldogs fall to 2-8-1 (2-4-1). Cal Lutheran looks to continue its success in a big game against the No. 16 team in the nation and SCIAC opponent Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
