THOUSAND OAKS, Calif — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball kicked off Homecoming weekend by hosting No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday night. The Athenas took the match 3-0 with scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-10.

Brooklyne Miko had a team-high five kills and Tess Holbert, Sadie Peete, and Tarin Rueckert had four each. Holbert continued her strong all-around play with 15 assists and eight digs. Reuckert had the most digs with 10, Amy Buffini was next with eight and Caitlin Murphy added seven. 

The Athenas jumped all over the Regals in the first set and went up 9-1. The Regals weathered the storm and cut the lead in half at 12-6. Five different Regals recorded a point as Murphy, Rueckert, Holbert, Miko, and Peete all recorded a kill during the run. The regals continued to fight but the Athenas took the first set. 

The second set remained close early on as the Regals trailed 7-6. Peete and Holbert recorded back-to-back kills to cut the lead to one. However, CMS turned on the jets and doubled up the Regals at 22-11. The Athenas took the second set and were up 2-0 in the match. CMS carried that momentum to the third set and won the match. 

With the loss the Regals dropped to 4-3 in conference play and 6-11 overall. The match snapped a three-game win streak for the Regals. 

The Regals continue the season at home. They host Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
