WHITTIER, Calif — Cal Lutheran women's soccer remained undefeated as they tied Whittier 1-1 on Wednesday night.
Ashley Escamilla scored the equalizer for the Regals.
The Regals are now 9-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the SCIAC. They currently sit atop the conference standings with Pomona-Pitzer.
The first half was all about the defense and the score was tied nil-nil at the half. The Regals had seven chances in the first half, but could only muster one shot on goal. The lone offensive chance came from
Avery West and on the defensive side
Logan Duford made two saves.
The Poets broke through in the second half and took the first lead of the game. The Regals answered not even six minutes later as
Isabella Veljacic found Escamilla in the 59th minute.
The offenses came alive in the second half. The Regals totaled 17 shots compared to Whittier's 10. CLU had eight shots on goal while WC had six. Veljacic recorded three shots on goal, West had two, and
Adriana Maroney, Escamilla, and
Anna Evenson had one. Duford helped the Regals tie the Poets and made five saves.
The Regals return home for their next conference game. They host Redlands on Saturday at 1 p.m.
