Kingsmen, Tigers Draw for Second Time this Season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — For the second this season, Cal Lutheran men's soccer and Occidental played to a draw, this game being a 0-0 outcome on Wednesday night.

"Today was a tough match against a good team," said head coach Miguel Ruiz. "We now have to prepare well and go out and get some results in these final games."

In the first half, both teams limited chances for the opposition, with much of the time being spent battling for possession in the midfield. The Kingsmen's best opportunity came when Jack Gomniak took a tough shot through traffic in front of the goal, but it was kept out by the Tigers defense.

It was more of the same in the second half, as neither team could find their groove offensively. Late in the contest, Cal Lutheran's Ching Leung found space for an open shot, but it was saved by the Occidental keeper. Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and was successful in his lone save opportunity.

The Kingsmen played a physical match, with 21 fouls between the two teams and 3 yellow cards handed out. Preston Fleming, Joel Wollin, Gominiack, and Leung had a shot on goal.

Cal Lutheran's record now stands at 5-2-7 (3-1-5) while Occidental moves to 8-3-3 (5-1-3). The Kingsmen continue conference play on the road against La Verne on Saturday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
