SANDESTIN, Fla. — Cal Lutheran men's and women's golf was selected to compete at the 2023 Golfweek Fall October Classic at Raven Golf Club from Sunday through Tuesday.
The teams were offered a chance to compete after they were in the top 25 rankings last year. The teams shot 18 holes each day. Playing against the top teams in the nation, the Kingsmen placed 15th while the Regals finished 24th. The Kingsmen were 31-over-par and shot 300-294-289-883. The Regals were 106-over-par and improved daily with 331-323-316-970.
Adam Cartozian had the best finish as he placed seventh at 1-under-par with 212 strokes. He fired a 2-under-par 69 to open the tournament and followed it up with a 72 and 71. JP Guimaraes was next and tied for 40th at 7-over-par. He got better each day and shot 77-74-69-220.
Hudson Solters,
Tanner Stewart, and
Blake Fitzhugh rounded out the team. Solters was 14-over-par and tied for 81st with 80-74-73-227, Stewart was 17-over-par and tied for 98th with 76-78-76-230, and Fitzhugh was 18-over-par and tied for 101st with 78-74-79-231.
Cartozian recorded the most birdies with 11 and Solters had the most pars with 37. Cartozian was also tied for sixth for lowest scoring average on Par 4 holes with 4.04.
Anna Poulin and
Ashley Zook led the way for the Regals with 23-over-par and tied for 80th. Poulin carded 81-78-80-239 and Zook shot 81-79-79-239.
Brooke Alderson placed 101st with 31-over-par and
Kaylie Hesse tied for 102nd at 32-over-par. Alderson recorded 83-84-80-247 and Hesse had 87-84-77-248.
Maya dela Rama rounded out the Regals and placed 110th at 36-over-par. Her stroke count was 86-82-84-252.
Zook carded the most birdies with six and Poulin had the most pars with 33.
The Regals finished their fall season and the Kingsmen have one more event. The Kingsmen play in the D-III Fall Preview October 29-31.
