THOUSAND OAKS, Calf. — Cal Lutheran's women's volleyball fell to Pomona-Pitzer 3-1 on Thursday night in Gilbert Arena. Scores for the match were 25-16, 18-25, 25-21, 25-14.

The loss comes in the semifinal of the SCIAC Tournament, bringing Cal Lutheran's record to 16-10. The chance at a SCIAC Championship came up just short and Cal Lutheran's season now hangs in the balance of a committee and an at-large berth.

First Team All-SCIAC honoree Maci Haddad played lights out for the Regals, making play after play. She recorded 17 kills with an astonishing .652 attack percentage. She also led the Regals at the net with three total blocks, one of which was solo.

Kennedy Crane recorded double-digit kills for the Regals and swatted down 13. Kira Mortensen was next with seven. Tess Holbert helped move the ball around as she tallied 22 assists. Kylee Grimm and Jalyn Chun also saw action at the setter position with nine and seven assists, respectively.

Defensively, Second Team All-SCIAC Julia Trento helped protect the back line with 17 digs. Isabella Wade made it two Regals with double-digit digs and added 10.

Cal Lutheran did not go down easy as the Regals made 49 kills with a hitting percentage of .278. The defense also played a strong part with 53 digs.

Haddad led the charge as she made the first kill in the first set. She was quickly followed by Sadie Peete, Crane, Miranda Chan, Mortensen, and Rayne Selhorst. Together they made a total of 12 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Sagehens took the first set.

Cal Lutheran came back reinvigorated as the Regals were determined to take a set. Haddad continued to lead her team, and had an attack percentage as high as .923 with double-digit kills. Altogether the Regals made 14 kills, taking their first set of the match.

The match went back-and-forth as Pomona-Pitzer looked to take the momentum back. The Regals tried to hold strong as they made 14 kills in the third set, but the Sagehens took the 2-1 lead. Despite Cal Lutheran's efforts, the Sagehens proved too much and took the fourth set, ending the match.
