Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. – The Regals pull ahead of the Poets with a 1-0 win after a goal in the 109th minute by Izzy Martinez.
The Regals out shot the Poets 5-2 in the first half. Despite their apparent offensive efforts, the Purple and Gold could not find the back of the net. All five of their shots were on goal, forcing the Poet's keeper to make saves.
11 different Regals put up shots tonight but Izzy Martinez was the only person able to get one to go. Dina Draguicevich, Janelle Effarah, and Elisa Shott were the leading shot takers with two each.
Logan Duford was on the goal line for the Regals and collected three saves through the 109 minutes. The starting backline consisting of Trinity Martinez, Katie Weaver, Aly Legrand and Kaitlyn Chandler made it hard for the Poets to get a shot on goal.
In the second half the Regals had eight shots compared to Whittier's zero. Though they were close, the Purple and Gold were still having trouble pushing it past the keeper which forced them into overtime.
It was getting down to the very end when the Regals were afforded a corner kick. Alexandra Fagerberg was able to send in a good cross giving her teammates yet another chance at goal. Martinez put the shot away to end double overtime.
By the time the game was over, the Regals had 16 shots, 14 of which were on frame. They end their conference season with a win and a secured second place seed in the SCIAC tournament.
They host Chapman on Thursday in William Rolland Stadium. The start time has yet to be announced.
