Kingsmen Win Ninth Straight; Take Down Leopards

LA VERNE, Calif.— Ben Brown and Justin Krause scored three goals each to lead the Cal Lutheran men's water polo team to a 11-7 win against La Verne Saturday afternoon.

It was the ninth straight for the Kingsmen as they improved to above .500 in SCIAC play and are 4-3. Overall, CLU is 11-7 and have scored 10-plus points eight times during the nine-game win streak.

Brown and Karuse both recorded a hat trick and Parker Jory and George Lundgren added two apiece. The Kingsmen kept the ball moving through the offense and recorded eight assists in all with Brown, Hans Cole, and Dillon Goldsmith each dished out two.

The power play opportunities were a big part of the game with CLU being 4-for-8 while holding ULV to 2-of-9. Cole Weiderman put the Kingsmen in great positions as he drew three ejections.

Andre Rivas was in the cage all game long and recorded 10 saves, one assist and the win. The defense continued to hold opponents under 10 points and the Leopards were the third straight team.

The Kingsmen opened the game with defensive dominance as they held the Leopards scoreless in the first and only allowed one goal in the fourth. Brown led the defense with five steals and Lundgren tallied three.

Cal Lutheran opened the game on fire with the five goals in the first and took a commanding lead over La Verne. The Kingsmen scored seven of the first eight goals and were up 7-1 midway through the second quarter. CLU was able to coast the rest of the way as they knocked off ULV.

The Kingsmen will go for 10 straight wins on Wednesday. It will be a tough test as they travel to the No. 2 team in the nation, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, with the game set for 4 p.m.
