THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Playing in its first home match of the season, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 verdict to the Brandeis (Mass.) Judges in non-conference play at the Poulson Tennis Center on Thursday evening.
Brandeis got off to a quick start after sweeping the doubles portion of the match. Shelby Kubota and Christie Kurdys paired up at No. 2 doubles and battled to an 8-3 defeat while Emily Werman and Annette Sousa fell 8-2 at No. 1. Michele Lehat and Keren Khromchenko completed the doubles sweep for the Judges with an 8-0 decision at No. 3 over Kylie McLellan and Nicole Neumann.
In singles play, Brandeis topped the Regals in straight sets on every court. Kurdys put up the toughest fight at No. 2, battling back from a 6-0 defeat before falling 7-6 in the second set. Sousa fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles while Neumann battled to a 6-2, 6-3 defeat at No. 5.
McLellan made her debut for the Violet and Gold in the match.
Cal Lutheran (0-3) returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action this Saturday, Feb. 25 against Whittier at 10:00 a.m. at the Poulson Tennis Center.
