LA VERNE, Calif. - In a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road match on Wednesday night, the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team downed La Verne 2-0 at Ortmayer Stadium. For the Regals, the win marks their second in a row this season and 14th in 16 meetings against the Leopards since 2008.
Offensive Highlights: CLU was the beneficiary of a Leopard own goal in the 25th minute, helping them take a 1-0 lead after Riley Martin crossed the ball into the box and it deflected of a La Verne defender into the goal. In the second half, Kali Youngdahl gave the Regals an insurance goal with her fifth score of the season coming off an assist by Olivia Leyva. CLU outshot the Leopards 11-3 and held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. Youngdhal led the way with four shots, including three on target, and Rachel Schroeder tallied two shots on goal. Other shots on goal came from Ryley Settles and Nina Winsick.
Defensive Highlights: The Violet and Gold defense preserved its six shutout already in just 10 games this season. La Verne managed just three shots all game, both in the second half, and goalkeeper Coral Hasley came up with two saves.
Cal Lutheran (8-1-1, 3-1-1 SCIAC) will continue conference road action against Occidental this Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
