THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team faced off with Pomona-Pitzer in a much anticipated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup this Saturday night. The Sagehens struck first but the Regals equalized with a chip over the goalkeeper by Rachel Schroeder in the final minute of the first half. Both teams battled throughout the match and two overtime periods to ultimately end in a 1-1 draw as the final whistle blew.
Cal Lutheran finished with eight shots on goal, each from a different player. Ryley Settles, Sarah Tadeusiak, Bri Pinal, Kali Youngdahl, Nina Winsick, Nikole Prelooker, Alex Albaeck, and Schroeder each contributed a shot on target. Coral Hasley was in goal for the full 110 minutes for the Regals and finished with a career-high 12 saves, five of them coming in the first half.
The Sagehens finished with 13 shots on goal, three of them coming from junior Sophia Barsher. In the 13th minute Brianna Lau sent a ball just high over the crossbar, keeping the match tied 0-0. Alyssa Kim scored the lone goal for Pomona-Pitzer in the 26th minute on a strike into the left corner to take the lead 1-0 until the Regals equalized. Corey Goelz took over the goalkeeping duties as the second half commenced and tallied seven saves throughout the final 65 minutes.
Cal Lutheran (6-1-1, 2-1-1 SCIAC) will be back in Rolland Stadium on Monday, Sept. 26 at 4:00 p.m. to take on UC Santa Cruz.
