THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The No. 2 Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team went up against No. 22 La Verne in last home contest of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and defeated the Leopards in three straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-17).

Before the match began, CLU recognized its senior six pack of Nicki Tetherow, Monica Lundgren, Sarah Pappas, Hannah Nua, Dianna Rohrer and Michelle Lawrence for their contributions to the Regals volleyball program over the past four years.

The Regals started the first set off with three points, with the first kill coming, fittingly, from a senior, Lundgren. CLU went on a four-point scoring run to pull ahead 8-2 before the Leopards were able to take back some points and turn the score 11-7. Hope Stewart helped out on service aiding a four-point run with an ace to make the score 17-12. The Regals were able to keep control of the set and put it away 25-14.

The second set started with the Regals ahead by two to begin. CLU added to that with Tetherow behind the back line and put up eight straight points to extend their lead 10-2. The Regals held the Leopards to just nine points while finishing the set scoring the last eight points in a row, again with Tetherow on service. The Violet and Gold took the second set 25-9.

The third set started with Leopards grabbing the first point. The set was very closely contested until it reached a score of 11-10 CLU. The Regals were able to open up the set after that, going on a seven-to-one scoring run putting the set at 18-11 and the Leopards could not come back after that. The Regals went on to score seven more points before La Verne could close the gap, winning 25-17.

Lawrence finished on top with 11 kills, six digs and five blocks. Pappas followed suit with 10 kills and four blocks. Stewart and Amanda Roberts had the exact same number of kills at eight and digs at nine. Lundgren had four kills and three blocks, while Jamie Smith had one service ace, two kills, four digs and 35 assists. Tetherow held up the defensive for the Regals with 15 digs.

Cal Lutheran (22-4, 13-2 SCIAC) looks to finish their regular season play against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens this Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m. With a win, the Regals can clinch at least a share of the SCIAC Championship.
