Box Score $website.include("options")

WHITTIER, Calif. - The No. 7 Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team only needed three sets to take out the Whittier Poets for the second time in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play this season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-19) victory on Friday night.

The first set started with the Regals grabbing the first point but it was all tied after that as the Poets and Regals went back-and-forth for nearly every point. CLU was able to break up the tie with a four-point scoring run, followed by a three-point scoring run after Whittier gained a point, making the score 22-17 CLU. The Regals ultimately held on to pull out a win scoring three points before the Poets could mount a comeback, ending at 25-22 Regals.

The second set started off very similar to the first, with each team trading points back-and-forth until the Regals were able to score three points in a row to put the score at 9-6 CLU. The Poets were able to come back and tie it up at 10 and the deadlock ensued. The Regals pulled ahead with a seven-point run with Mikayla Dobson on service putting the score at 17-11. The Regals were able to hold this lead for the remainder of the set and pull out the win 25-14.

The Poets came out hot in the third set scoring the first three points of the set. Whittier held the lead for most of the set. The Regals were able to tie it up at 10 but the Poets quickly took the lead back on the next point. CLU pushed back against the Poets and were able to take control of the set after scoring five points off the serve of Molly Holloway to make the score 15-11 Regals. The Poets tried to gain an advantage, but the Regals wouldn't let up. CLU took the last six points of the set with Dobson ending the set and the match with a service ace, 25-19 Regals.

Sarah Pappas had 11 kills after three sets. Hope Stewart and Michelle Lawrence each had nine kills while also claiming 12 and six digs, respectively. Amanda Roberts finished with five kills and nine digs. Nicki Tetherow held up the defense with 13 digs, while Jamie Smith had a great night with four kills, seven digs and 28 assists.

Cal Lutheran (17-4, 8-2 SCIAC) will play host to the Redlands Bulldogs (11-9, 2-8 SCIAC) tomorrow, Oct. 15 at 6:00 p.m. inside Gilbert Arena.
