LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Two days removed from a home victory over Whittier, the winning ways continued for the Cal Lutheran men's basketball team as the Kingsmen defeated Occidental 67-63 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action after opening a 34-30 halftime lead on Monday evening at Rush Gymnasium.
Offensive Highlights: Jeremy Sulker-Hall was a difference maker with a game-high 27 points while Connor McGuire had a huge second half, finishing with 11. Dan Wade remained consistent with 13 points tonight for the Kingsmen while handing out three assists. Lanaki Apele paced the Violet and Gold with four assists in the win. Additionally, Coby de Laveage chipped in with 10 points off the bench. Overall, Cal Lutheran shot 48.1 percent from the floor and went 6-for-11 from three-point range.
Defensive Highlights: CLU came down with 25 rebounds, led by McGuire with eight while Sulker-Hall finished with seven. Both de Laveaga and McGuire notched a block and Apele earned a trio of steals. Sulker-Hall and Kellen Birdsall grabbed a pair of steals apiece as well.
The Opponent: The Tigers looked to Jay Miller for 21 points and Spencer Levy for 19. The Tigers combined for 45 rebounds with nine from Austin Dewitz who led all players.
Notables: Sulker-Hall surpassed his career-best 25 points, which he achieved against Geneva on Dec. 29, tonight. CLU moved to .500 in SCIAC action with the win.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (7-6, 3-3 SCIAC) returns to the Gilbert Arena on Saturday, Jan. 23 to host Chapman for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off, following the second day of the Inaugural Posada Royale Men's Volleyball Tournament at CLU in the afternoon.
