LOS ANGELES, Calif. - On a day when the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team climbed to No. 6 in the newly released American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, the Regals hit the road, travelling to Occidental where the visiting Violet and Gold earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win over the Tigers tonight.
Offensive Highlights: Cal Lutheran hit .242 as a unit after a great second set in which the Regals combined for a .452 average. Three CLU players finished with double figure kills, led by Michelle Lawrence with 16, on 26 swings to hit at a .462 clip, while both Allie Eason and Sarah Pappas finished with 10. Jamie Smith had another stellar match with 41 assists and three service aces, to match Molly Holloway with the match-lead.
Defensive Highlights: Lawrence also paced all players on the court defensively with 15 digs. She was equally as effective at the net with a solo block and four block assists. Monica Lundgren turned in another solid showing with a solo stop of her own and a match-best five block assists.
Notables: CLU stretched its win-streak to five matches. The Regals have won nine consecutive games. It was the sixth double-double of the season for Lawrence.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (14-2, 4-0 SCIAC) returns to the Gilbert Arena to host Chapman for a 7:30 p.m. first serve on Friday, Oct. 2.
