CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) finale pitted the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team against Pomona-Pitzer. A 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-14) victory propelled the Regals to a sixth straight conference title.
Offensive Highlights: CLU got stronger offensively as the night went on, hitting at a .410 clip in the final game. Leading the way tonight was Hope Stewart with 14 kills while Pua Mo'okini-Oliveira and Sarah Pappas put down 11 apiece. Serving as the setter, Jamie Smith handed out 42 assists in the win. Smith and Amanda Roberts each recorded two service aces and Allie Eason added one as well.
Defensive Highlights: Stewart and Pappas were also threats at the net with each tallying a solo block with Smith and Pappas teaming up for a joint stop as well. Four players reached double digit digs, paced by Nicki Tetherow with 23. Roberts was next with 22 and Smith and Eason totaled 12 and 11, respectively.
Notables: Cal Lutheran clinched the 12th women's volleyball title in program history and a Claremont-Mudd-Scripps win tonight produced the second co-championship since joining the league in 1991. Although CLU and CMS tied in the overall standings, the Regals earn the top seed, based on a tiebreaker, and right to host the 2015 SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (24-4, 14-2 SCIAC) will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, La Verne and Whittier as the one through four seeds, respectively, on Thursday, Nov. 5. The first match between CMS and LV is set for 5:00 p.m. inside of the Gilbert Arena with the second semifinal match between WC and CLU scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The two victorious teams will play on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 6:00 p.m. for an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Playoffs.
