THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) women's soccer at Rolland Stadium tonight was a contest full of Violet and Gold as Cal Lutheran hosted Whittier in the second straight Saturday soccer doubleheader. Unfortunately for the Regals, a 1-0 shutout went to the Poets.
In a contest that the home Violet and Gold controlled, outshooting the visiting Purple and Gold by a 25-9 margin, the difference came at the 34:12 mark when Kaela Reisfelt converted a penalty kick for the only crooked number of the game.
CLU combined for 14 first half shots to double up the seven that Whittier fired off, but it was the Poets that ultimately scored the winning goal in that frame. A similar scenario ensued in the second half when the Regals peppered the WC cage with 11 and allowed just two attempts with only one on target.
While 11 different Cal Lutheran players earned at least one opportunity, Bianca Deardorff and Kali Youngdahl managed five shots apiece to pace the Regals and Olivia Leyva finished with four. Raquel Weckhurst and Mallory Carcich took three and two, respectively. Miranda Campos, Julia Kearns, Katelym Kimball, Bri Pinal, Sarah Tadeusiak and Emily Williams rounded out the shots.
The defensively unit of Carcich, Kearns, Leyva and Nikole Prelooker kept the Poets off balanced throughout. Coral Hasley made six saves with five in the first period and two in the second stanza. Jenna Malinowski came off the bench to aid in the effort as well.
Cal Lutheran (6-8-2, 5-5-2 SCIAC) returns to William Rolland Stadium for one final time on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Prior to the 7:00 p.m. kickoff the senior class will be recognized.
