CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team took down the first place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 1-0, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup on Wednesday night at Pritzlaff Field.

Offensive Highlights: The Regals broke through for an early goal, after Mallory Carcich and Kali Youngdahl teamed up to find an open Bianca Deardorff for the score in the ninth minute of the match. It was the third goal of the season for Deardorff and the team-leading third assist for Carcich. SCIAC leading scorer Raquel Weckhurst tied for a game-high with seven shots, including five on goal, and Youngdahl fired off six shots. As a team, the Violet and Gold outshot the Athenas 26-16 while CMS held a 6-4 advantage on corner kicks.

Defensive Highlights: After taking an early lead, the CLU defense held strong to preserve its second straight shutout and fourth of the year. Keeper Coral Hasley notched three saves in front of the net and a strong starting defensive unit of Carcich, Nikole Prelooker, Olivia Leyva and Julia Kearns held the Athenas off the scoreboard.

The Opponent: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps had its six-game winning streak snapped by Cal Lutheran and were held scoreless for just the fourth time this year. Katelyn Faust tied for game-high honors with seven shots and Darrah Shields added three. Goalkeeper Kelly McConnell tallied 12 saves in 90 minutes of action for the Athenas.

Notables: With the win, the Regals moved into a tie for fourth place in the SCIAC standings with Occidental and have just three games left to play.

Cal Lutheran (6-7-2, 5-4-2 SCIAC) will return to Rolland Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 24 at 5:00 p.m. for a crucial conference contest against Whittier (8-5-1, 5-5-1 SCIAC).
