LOS ANGELES – Cal Lutheran women's soccer continued its dominant run through SCIAC play Wednesday night, shutting out Occidental 2-0 at W.C. Patterson Field to extend its winning streak to nine games.
The Regals (12-1-3, 8-0-2 SCIAC) remained unbeaten in conference play behind another commanding offensive performance and a defense that refused to budge. Cal Lutheran recorded its ninth shutout of the season and matched its longest winning streak since 2023.
Despite controlling the opening half, the Regals entered the break in a scoreless deadlock. Cal Lutheran outshot Occidental 11-2 in the first 45 minutes and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks, but the Tigers managed to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
The breakthrough came almost immediately after halftime. Just 1:39 into the second period,
Jessica Sprouse found the back of the net off an assist from
Sawyer Frye to give Cal Lutheran a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Sprouse's fifth of the season.
The Regals doubled their advantage in the 60th minute when Frye connected with
Stephenie Hackett, who buried her fifth goal of the year to make it 2-0.
Cal Lutheran's offense continued to overwhelm the Tigers, finishing with a 25-6 advantage in shots, including 11 on goal, and a commanding 16-2 edge in corner kicks. The Regals generated 14 shots and 11 corners in the second half alone, keeping the pressure on Occidental throughout the final 45 minutes.
Hackett led the offensive effort with five shots, while Sprouse added four.
Isabella Haulman and
Keira Hazard each contributed three attempts as the Regals spread their offensive opportunities across the lineup.
On the defensive end, Cal Lutheran limited Occidental to just two shots on goal for the entire match. Goalkeeper
Kira Kasarda played all 90 minutes and recorded both saves to preserve the clean sheet.
With the victory, the Regals extended their winning streak to nine games and their unbeaten streak to 11, continuing an impressive stretch that has seen them outscore opponents 28-3 over their last nine contests.
