THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Entering the evening the Cal Lutheran and Redlands women's soccer teams shared the third spot in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings. After an intense meeting, the Bulldogs walked away with sole possession of that spot after the home Regals were defeated 1-0.

A touch under 10 minutes into the contest, Raquel Weckhurst nearly gave the Violet and Gold a quick lead, but CLU was called offsides by inches and the score was negated. Undeterred, the home team continued to control the pace of play. Kali Youngdahl had a pair of opportunities on the same play and added a third shot though there was only one accurate attempt on goal apiece until Bianca Deardorff also missed by the slightest margin, hitting the cross bar with just over 10 minutes to go in the opening half.

The visiting Bulldogs posted the only crooked number of the night with a goal from Cassie Lively on an assist from Isabella Baezin the 41st minute of action.

In the second half, CLU peppered the Redlands' goal with 11 shots, limiting the Maroon and Gray to three, but none found their way to the back of the net. With seven minutes remaining in regulation Weckhurst squared a ball up but it sailed just high. Deardorff had a change down the stretch has well.

Overall, CLU took 16 shots and UR managed seven. The Regals earned five corner kicks, three in the second stanza, and allowed just two, which both happened in the first half.

Leading the way for Cal Lutheran was Youngdahl with five, followed by Weckhurst with four while Deardorff took three and Nicole Prelooker fired off a pair. The final two attempts came from Alex Albaeck and Sarah Wardle. Coral Hasley worked all 90 minutes for CLU and recorded three saves.

Redlands (5-3-2, 4-3-1 SCIAC) was paced by three shots from McKenenzie Oliger while Livley and Savannah Laursen each took two. Lexi Felix earned the win with four saves in the 90 minutes she guarded the UR goal.

At conference-leading Pomona-Pitzer this afternoon, the Sagehens fell 1-0 to second place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Sixth Street battle. As the two remain the top-two spots in the SCIAC standings.

Cal Lutheran (5-7-1, 4-4-1) will be back on the field at Rolland Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17 as part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team. The women will host Occidental at 7:30 p.m. after the Kingsmen face La Verne at 5:00 p.m. Saturday will also serve as a Childhood Cancer Awareness Night in conglomeration with Cancer Fit, Inc.
