Lexington, Ky. - The Cal Lutheran volleyball team used another victory this week to vault the Regals up to No. 2 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, which was announced by the organization today.
Thus far in 2014, CLU has sat in each of the No. 2-6 positions.
Today the NCAA also released national statistics. The Cal Lutheran team ranks third in kills per set with 14.02 and is sixth in assists per game with 12.80. A .932 winning percentage ranks the Regals 10th and a combined .252 hitting percentage is 11th in the country. CLU also leads numerous categories within in the league.
Cal Lutheran has been paced by the duo of Allie Eason and Michelle Lawrence, with 4.05 and 4.0 kills per set, respectively, the pair is 24th and 25th nationally. Eason is also 19th with 4.80 points per set. Defensively, Nicki Tetherow is 36th in the country for digs.
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe Claremont-Mudd-Scripps remains in the AVCA Poll for week four, though the Athenas dropped to No. 19. Friday, Sept. 26, the two teams will meet for the first time of the year. La Verne also received votes again this week.
Hope (Mich.) earned all 63 first place votes to remain No. 1 for the second straight week with an unblemished 10-0 record. Rounding out the top three is Emory (Ga.) who the Regals fell to earlier in the season.
Cal Lutheran (12-1) continues league play tonight at Occidental after opening SCIAC action on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer.
