WHITTIER, Calif. - Facing conference-leading Whittier this morning on the road, the Cal Lutheran men's water polo team was edged 13-11 by the Poets in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contest at the Lilian Slade Aquatics Center.
WC took a slim 5-4 advantage after the opening period and the teams exchanged goals in the second as the Poets took a 7-6 lead into the break. A scoreless third quarter from CLU was the difference maker as the Kingsmen came back to outscore Whittier 5-3 in the final frame.
A hat-trick from Camron Hauer paced the offense while a pair of goals from Zack Card, Shea Craig and Zach Graper and single goals from AJ Franklin and Taylor McMaster rounded out the scoring today. Card drew two ejections. Justin English supplied two assists and also led the team at the defensive end of the pool with four steals.
Also tallying multiple steals with two apiece were Craig, Jack Acampora, Mike Arteaga and Jesse Owen. As the CLU goalie, Owen misdirected 12 Whittier shots and he also supplied an assist in the game.
Cal Lutheran (6-12, 2-3 SCIAC) is back in the pool at the Samuelson Aquatics Center on Wednesday, Nov. 5 when the Kingsmen will host Redlands at 4:00 p.m.
