PASADENA, Calif. - Announced on Tuesday evening by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Cal Lutheran women's soccer player Kali Youngdahl was selected as the Female Athlete of the Week for her accomplishments between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5.
The freshman guided the Regals to a 2-0 week as CLU defeated Whittier 3-1 at home and Occidental 3-2 in a double overtime thriller on the road last Saturday night.
Youngdahl, a midfielder, scored twice in each game, including the game-winner against the Tigers with less than a minute to play in the second OT period (1:09.28). Against Oxy Youngdahl netted two on three shots.
Over her last three games she has provided five goals with two game-winners as Cal Lutheran has gone 2-0-1. During her first collegiate season, Youngdahl has started in all 11 games and has become a playmaker for the Violet and Gold, firing off 33 shots to date. Of those, 17 have been on target for a .515 shot on goal percentage.
Cal Lutheran (5-4-2, 3-2-1 SCIAC) has found a rhythm over the last couple of weeks and the Regals are currently unbeaten in their last four contests with a 3-0-1 mark. On Wednesday, Oct. 9 the Regals will wrap up the first round of action in league competition with a road game at Chapman, which is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Also earing SCIAC AOW honors from Cal Lutheran this year was junior volleyball player Allie Eason who was the first overall selection of the year (Aug. 29-Sept. 7).
