LOS ANGELES, Calif. - For the third consecutive game Kali Youngdahl was a difference maker, tonight punching in the game-winner in the 110th minute to propel the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team to a dramatic 3-2 double overtime victory against Occidental in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action.
Occidental controlled the pace of play early with seven first period shots to just two from Cal Lutheran, but the second half and overtime were a different story as CLU swayed the momentum and outshot Oxy 14-5 over the final 65 minutes.
Trailing 1-0 at the intermission and well into the second half, Kirsten Bergseth scored her first collegiate goal to equalize the score at 1-1 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation. Just over three minutes later Youngdahl put the Regals on top 2-1, though the Tigers tied things up again at the 86:14 mark. CLU had an opportunity to end things in the final minute of regulation, but a diving stop by Oxy goalie Dallas Gunny, denied the penalty kick to send the squads into extra time.
