ORANGE Calif. - After dropping the first game in extra points, the No. 2 Cal Lutheran volleyball team stormed back to sweep through the next three sets in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at Chapman tonight, winning 25-27, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.
The Regals finished with three players in double figures for kills with Michelle Lawrence notching a match-high 16 followed by 14 from Allie Eason and a 10 by Sarah Pappas. Doing the setting, Kennedy Peters and Jena Chavez again split time nearly identically with 29 and 25, respectively. All four service aces for CLU came from Eason in the win.
Defensively, the Violet and Gold were tough on the net with 21 block assists produced by seven different players and five Regals earned double digit digs. Pappas paced all players with seven block assists and Eason was second with five while both Lawrence and Dianna Rohrer had three. Eason was the top digger with 20 followed by 18 from both Lawrence and Nicki Tetherow. Chavez and Peters had 10 apiece as well.
Chapman (7-16, 6-7 SCIAC) was led by Michele Hammer with 13 kills and Val Geiger with 11. Jade Santos did the majority of the setting with 39 and matched Eason with four aces at the service line. Andi Frisina was tops for all players with 28 digs and Ellen Cleveland was a menace at the net with three solo stops and a trio of block assists.
Cal Lutheran (23-2, 12-1) returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 28 to host Caltech at 7:30 p.m. inside of the Gilbert Arena.
