REDLANDS, Calif. - For the second time in as many games the Cal Lutheran men's water polo team played on the road, but unfortunately today the Kingsmen fell 11-8 to Redlands in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.
CLU fell behind 3-1 after the first frame and a 9-3 halftime deficit was too much to overcome though the Violet and Gold won the third quarter 4-1.
Max Zappas led the Kingsmen with a trio of goals and AJ Franklin was the only other player to notch more than one goal with two, also adding two assists. Zappas, Taylor McMaster and Nathan Ortega each drew a pair of ejections. Ortega and Zack Card were responsible for an assist apiece as well.
Defensively, CLU produced four field blocks with McMaster recording a pair and Shea Craig and David Sparks tallying the other two. McMaster also had two steals, sharing the team-lead with Spencer McGrath. Guarding the Cal Lutheran cage for all four quarters today Jesse Owen recorded 12 saves.
Cal Lutheran (10-15, 2-4 SCIAC) returns to the Samuelson Aquatics Center on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for a 4:00 p.m. showdown with La Verne.
