LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's water polo team opened the day with a sour 13-6 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) loss at Chapman before traveling to Division I No. 1 USC to face the Trojans, falling by a 22-3 margin.

To start the split doubleheader, CLU faced Chapman. After being blanked in the first half, CLU looked to Spencer McGrath and Nathan Ortega to get on the board in the third quarter and the Kingsmen added four in the final frame, but it was too little too late. Ortega was responsible for two more goals in the fourth to finish with a hat-trick while Zack Card and Taylor McMaster each found the back of the net once.

Jesse Owen played all four quarters in front of the cage for the Kingsmen against the Panthers.

In the afternoon, McGrath, AJ Franklin and Max Zappas scored a goal apiece against the Trojans. Franklin, Ortega, Zappas and Camron Hauer all drew an ejection as well.

Defensively, Zappas and Zach Graper each recorded a field block and McGrath, Ortega, Owen and Hunter Hamaker each had a steal. Owen again played all four quarters, saving six shots and supplying the only CLU assist of the game.

Cal Lutheran (8-13, 0-2 SCIAC) returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a league match-up with Whittier at 4:00 p.m. inside the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
