WHITTIER, Calif. -- The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team scored five goals in the first 20 minutes of the game as the Regals rolled to a 6-3 victory over Whittier Wednesday. In two games this season, CLU outscored the Poets 13-3. The win over Whittier also extended Cal Lutheran's season-long winning streak to six games.
Just six minutes in the contest, Stephanie Gilbert scored her second goal of the year on a corner-kick from Mallory Carcich.
Four minutes later, Bianca Deardorff found the back of the net after weaving through the Poets defense and converting on a pass from Taylor Will.
In the 17th minute, Kristina Hulse added to her Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) leading-goal total when she scored her 10th goal of the season.
Cal Lutheran scored on its second corner-kick of the game just two minutes later when Anna Medler headed in her second goal of the year and gave CLU a 4-0 advantage.
Less than a minute later, Deardorff capped the scoring explosion when she netted her second goal of the game, upping her season total to eight.
The Regals would tack on another goal in the 35th minute when freshman Katelyn Kimball scored her third goal of the year and then headed into halftime with a 6-0 lead.
Whittier scored three goals in the second half but CLU hung on as all 27 players played.
Kristin Bailey started the first half in goal and came up with two saves while Karly Loberg played the entire second half.
Cal Lutheran (12-3, 8-1 SCIAC) resumes action this Saturday, Oct. 19, when it travels to Occidental to take on the Tigers. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
