Late Goal Trumps Regals

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., - A flick of UC Santa Cruz forward's foot was all the difference in Sunday afternoon's game at Rolland Stadium as Cal Lutheran fell to the non-conference foe Banana Slugs. With the loss the Regals fall to 7-2 overall.

It appeared as if CLU would notch its third-straight shut out before forward Sara Sadler flicked the ball just past CLU Goalkeeper Kristen Bailey on a Taylor O'Mera cross in the 84th minute, snapping the Regals defensive scoreless streak at 352 consecutive minutes.

With the hot temperatures and quick turnaround from playing yesterday, CLU struggled to formulate organized attacks or maintain possession. The Regals outplayed and outshot the Banana Slugs in both halves, led by Taylor Will and Mayra Virgen's three shots apiece but were unable to find the back of the net.

Sunday's loss also snapped CLU's seven game winning streak.

CLU looks to rebound and increase their lead in the SCIAC standings when they host conference foe Whittier College Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Rolland Stadium.
