THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran suffered its first defeat of the season falling at home to No. 18 Chapman, 5-4. The Regals led at the end of doubles play, but the Panthers rallied in singles action to take the match.

Results: CU 5, CLU 4 - F

The Cal Lutheran doubles teams of Kim Kolibas and Holly Beaman, along with Lauren Toohey and Sarah Baker earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles respectively.

Chapman earned each of its four victories in straight sets, including a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles by Melissa Boyer. The Panthers led 5-3 and secured the match, but CLU's Carly Mouzes earned the final point winning a super tiebreak third set at No. 5 singles.

Despite being ranked No. 18 in the nation, the Panthers do not have any singles or doubles players regionally ranked in the pre-season Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The CLU doubles duo of Kolibas and Beaman is ranked No. 14 in the West region and improved to 2-1 on the year following today's performance.

Chapman has now won six straight against Cal Lutheran dating back to the 2007 season. Prior to that the Regals were winners of five straight meetings with the Panthers from 2002-06.

Cal Lutheran (3-1) will host Caltech (1-1) in both team's conference opener on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m.
