WHITTIER, Calif. - After upsetting Chapman on day one to advance in the winners bracket at the 2012 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Cal Lutheran hit a road block falling 13-9 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps today at Whittier.
The CLU offense got off to a slow start, scoring just two first half goals, and was unable to find a real rhythm. CMS opened an 8-2 lead at the break, though the Kingsmen did chip away with a pair in the third and five in the fourth.
Carter Baldwin came away with a game-high seven steals and was one of two players with two goals in the contest. Joining Baldwin with a pair was fellow senior Dejan Novakovic. The rest of the scoring was spread between five other players with AJ Franklin, Hunter Hamaker, Graham Jameson, Spencer McGrath, and Max Zappas each netting a goal.
Danny Mock guarded the cage for the entire game, finishing with six saves and three steals.
Cal Lutheran (14-14, 5-5 SCIAC) have an opportunity to finish the season over .500 with a win in the third place game against host Whittier on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 12:00 p.m.
