WHITTIER, Calif. - After opening league play with a big win, the Kingsmen have struggled to find a rhythm in the pool having dropped their last two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. Today, on the road for the first of two games, Cal Lutheran fell 11-8 at the hands of the Poets.
WC opened an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter and the Kingsmen were never able to recover. In the second stanza CLU netted five of its eight goals, holding Whittier to four to trail by just one goal at halftime.
It was the Poets who powered through the final two quarters with five combined goals to the CLU three.
Both Dejan Novakovic and Carter Baldwin scored hat tricks with three goals apiece while Spencer McGrath was responsible for the final two of the game.
Cal Lutheran (10-11, 1-3 SCIAC) stays on the road for a Saturday, Oct. 20 showdown with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11:00 a.m. Earlier this fall CLU defeated CMS, 12-11, in a double overtime thriller at the UC Davis Aggie Shootout.
