LA VERNE, Calif. - Cal Lutheran was victorious in its first round match at the SCIAC Championships earning an 11-7 win over host La Verne on Friday afternoon. The Kingsmen will face top seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Following a 1-1 first quarter the Cal Lutheran offense scored five times in the second. The Kingsmen built up a 6-4 lead heading into the half.
After an even third frame the SCIAC's best scoring defense was on display in the fourth quarter holding the Leopards scoreless over the final eight minutes. Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Danny Mock made eight saves in the win.
Brandon Gross led Cal Lutheran with three goals. Kyle Norheim and Dejan Novakovic each scored a pair in the victory.
Cal Lutheran defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their regular season meeting back on Oct. 29. A repeat effort by the Kingsmen would put them in the conference tournament finals and a chance at the program's first-ever SCIAC title on Sunday.
