John Austin

John Austin Jr. was named the Defensive Backs Coach at Cal Lutheran football in July of 2023. 

Before becoming the Cornerbacks Coach, Austin was the Wide Receivers Coach at Antelope Valley College from 2020-2022.

Prior to coaching at Antelope Valley College, he coached at Los Angeles Pierce College from 2014-2019 as the Offensive Coordinator (2017-2018) and Wide Receivers Coach. 

Austin attended Sylmar High School and graduated in 2006 as a 3-sport varsity athlete in Football, Basketball, and Track & Field. During his football duration, he was named First Team Daily News All-Area, First Team All-City, and a 2x First Team All-Valley Mission League as the Quarterback and Free Safety of the Spartans. He made the Daily News All-Star Game and was the team’s Offensive MVP.

Following his prep career, he attended College of the Canyons and Southwest Baptist University (Missouri). He was voted Team Captain and earned an All-Conference Honor while at Southwest Baptist as a Wide Receiver. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Sociology from College of the Canyons in 2008 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Southwest Baptist University in 2010.

Originally from Pacoima, Calif., Austin currently resides in Palmdale, Calif.
