Hackett Named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, Four Regals Earn First Team All-SCIAC

The SCIAC announced its Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams and Awards this week, and four Cal Lutheran players were honored. Tessa French, Stephenie Hackett, Olivia Suarez, and Anna Evenson made appearances on the First Team, and Hackett was named Newcomer of the Year.

French, a senior defender from Lake Oswego, Oregon, has played the past two seasons for Cal Lutheran after transferring from Division-I Boise State. She has started all 19 games this year and has logged the second-most minutes (1533) on her team. French has led the Regals defense to 10 shutouts this season while scoring three goals on offense. Cal Lutheran is 3-0 in the games in which French has scored.

In her first collegiate season, Hackett has quickly become a key contributor for the Regals. Hailing from Las Vegas, the midfielder has started 16 of the 17 games she has appeared in this fall. She has scored three goals, including a two-goal performance against Whittier in the regular-season finale last weekend. In one of the best conferences in the nation, Hackett has stood out among freshmen and was named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Coming off a First Team All-SCIAC and All-Region 2024 season, Suarez has reached another gear during her senior year. She is fourth in the SCIAC in goals (6) and seventh in assists (3), putting her at third in total points (15). The midfielder from Stevenson Ranch has started in all 19 games for Cal Lutheran this season, earning back-to-back First Team nods.

A forward from San Diego, Evenson's speed has been on display all season for the Regals, as she has found ways to create her own shot while often setting up great looks for her teammates. She ranks second in the SCIAC in assists (5), third in shots-on-goal (23), and sixth in goals (4). Evenson has started in all 18 of the games she has appeared in this fall, and she scored the game-winning goal against CMS last night to propel Cal Lutheran to the SCIAC Tournament Championship.

This quartet of Regals will look to lead Cal Lutheran to its first SCIAC Tournament Championship victory since 2011 when they take on Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 12pm.
