THOUSAND OAKS, CA - Cal Lutheran women's soccer fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-1 in the SCIAC semifinal on Wednesday night, ending their postseason tournament run.
The Regals (12-3-4, 10-2-0) will have to fight defend their 2023 Division III National Championship, as the fate of their season falls in the hands of the NPI rankings. The Athenas of CMS (11-3-3, 8-3-0) have advanced to their second SCIAC Championship in three years.
It was a strong start for the Regals, who netted a goal off the boot of Senior Jazy Campbell just four minutes in, Campbell's first goal of the season.
The Athenas neutralized in the 32nd minute however and took the lead in the 53rd minute.
The Regals out-saved CMS 3-2, courtesy of first-year goalkeeper
Kira Kasarda, who holds an impressive 0.850 save percentage.
This caps off this season's SCIAC series between the two at 1-1-1, an accurate reflection of how the two squads have fared against each other in the past. In their last 10 contests they have split 3-3-4 and are 22-18-17, in the Regals favor, all-time.
The NCAA Selection Show will air on Monday, November 11th at 2:00 PM ET/11:00 AM PT, where the Regals will find out if their season continues.
