ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's soccer continued its hot start as they shut out Chapman for their seventh straight victory on Wednesday night.
Isabella Veljacic scored twice to lead the Regals past the Panthers 2-0. The Regals are 7-0-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The game was at Chapman and Cal Lutheran improved to 4-0 in road games.
"Another strong road win," said head coach
Frank Marino. "I was happy to see how much better we played in the second half as we got the win. There were a lot of great contributors in this game."
The Regals continued their dominating ways as they had 14 shots compared to the Panthers one. Cal Lutheran put three on goal as Chapman had just one.
Logan Duford and the Regal defense continued to be impressive. Duford and the defense of
Lily Hatanaka,
Avery West,
Ally Fisicaro,
Savana Durr,
Madie Fahey, and
Brynn McMahon combined for another shutout, the seventh of the year. The Regals have only allowed one goal in 720 minutes.
It was a scoreless first half as the teams were tied going into the break. Veljacic scored to open the half, in the 47
th minute, with the assist coming to West and
Eden Quiroz. Veljacic added her second goal, doubling up the competition, in the 64
th minute, with an assist from
Anna Evenson.
The offense kept the shots coming and Veljacic and West led the team with three shots each.
Caitlyn Winter and Quiroz had two shots each and Fisicaro, McMahon,
Ryan Kaneko, and
Hana Sawan each had one.
The Regals have the weekend off before jumping back into action. They host Occidental on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
