For the final time of the season, facing SCIAC leading La Verne, the Cal Lutheran softball team honored five seniors despite a pair of tough inning-shortened losses, 8-0 and 13-4, to the Leopards today.
On a gorgeous Saturday at Hutton Field, the Cal Lutheran softball team hosted Occidental in the second SCIAC series of the season between the teams. It was the second straight day of league play for the Regals who rallied for a 12-10 game two victory to cap a sweep after stealing the first game from the Tigers 4-3.
On the road against a red hot No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squad, the Cal Lutheran softball team dropped a pair to the Athenas, falling 10-1 in game one before dropping the nightcap 8-0 on Friday afternoon.
A rescheduled SCIAC series between the Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer softball teams had a promising start for the Regals, but it was the Sagehens who walked away from Hutton Field victorious, defeating the host squad 8-6 and 6-0.
To be an All-Conference collegiate athlete takes talent, dedication and hard work, but to be a two-sport All-Conference player is even more commendable. Sophomore Olivia Leyva has done just that and is one of a rare few in unrelated sports to do so in the SCIAC, garnering accolades for both women’s soccer and softball.
