COMMERCE, Calif. –The second day of the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships at Brenda Villa Aquatics Center saw more records fall as the Cal Lutheran Regals took a memorable trip to the medal stand.

In the shortest event of the weekend, Cal Lutheran put a pair on the podium for the 50 free as Mardell Ramirez and Grace Sanchez did the near impossible by sprinting the championship final in identical times of 23.84 to share not only the bronze, but the new school record, in an NCAA “B” cut time. This morning they both broke the 10-year-old CLU record of 24.17 set by Merle Vermillion 10 years and a day earlier with times of 23.94 (Ramirez) and 23.98 (Sanchez).

The final event of the night came in the form of the 200 Free Relay in which the quartet of Sanchez, Van der Laan, Paulina Cordero and Ramirez teamed up for a swim of 1:39.30, a second off the record (1:38.44) set last season, to tie for fifth.

Additionally, Allison Farre was the top CLU finisher in the 200 Individual Medley after clocking a 2:27.85.

During the break from preliminary swimming to finals, three-meter diving prelims took place. Carlie Burrow (284.85), Kelsey Daehlin (284.00) and Brianna DeValk (223.30) each wrapped up her season.
